Overview

Uniswap — Connect Wallet & Swap

Uniswap is the largest decentralized exchange (DEX) by volume. To swap tokens, provide liquidity or manage positions, you connect a self-custody crypto wallet — no account or sign-up required. This guide explains how to connect your wallet, which wallets and networks are supported, and how to fix the most common issues.

Official Uniswap App

The official Uniswap web app is hosted at app.uniswap.org. Always verify the URL before connecting your wallet.

Step-by-Step

How to Connect a Wallet to Uniswap

  1. 1

Go to the Official Uniswap App

Open your browser and navigate to app.uniswap.org. Bookmark it and always verify the URL — never use links from DMs, emails or ads.

  2. 2

    Click “Connect” (Top Right)

The Connect button sits in the top-right corner of the Uniswap interface. Click it to open the wallet selection list.

  3. 3

    Choose Your Wallet

Select Uniswap Wallet, MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet or WalletConnect. On mobile, use your wallet's built-in dApp browser or the Uniswap app.

  4. 4

    Select Your Network

Pick Ethereum or an L2 such as Base, Arbitrum, Optimism or Unichain. Uniswap prompts your wallet to switch networks automatically.

  5. 5

    Approve the Connection

Your wallet asks you to approve the connection to app.uniswap.org. Confirm it — your address appears top-right and you're ready to swap.

Troubleshooting

Uniswap Wallet Connection Problems & Fixes

Wallet Not ConnectingMost Common

If your wallet won't connect to Uniswap:

  1. Make sure your wallet extension is installed and unlocked.
  2. Refresh the page and try connecting again.
  3. Use a supported browser (Chrome or Brave work best with MetaMask).
  4. Disable conflicting extensions (other wallets, ad-blockers, VPNs).
  5. Clear cache and cookies, then reconnect.
Wrong Network / ChainNetwork

Uniswap needs your wallet to be on a supported network.

  1. Open the network selector in the top-right of Uniswap.
  2. Pick Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon or another supported chain.
  3. Approve the network switch request in your wallet.
MetaMask Not DetectedMetaMask
  • Confirm the MetaMask extension is enabled in your browser.
  • Click the MetaMask icon and unlock it with your password.
  • Reload Uniswap and try connecting again.
  • In Brave, disable Shields for app.uniswap.org.
Transaction Pending / StuckTransactions
  • In MetaMask: Settings → Advanced → Clear activity tab data to reset pending transactions.
  • Speed up the transaction by increasing the gas price.
  • Raise slippage tolerance for low-liquidity tokens.
  • Wait for network congestion to clear and check the block explorer.
High Slippage or Price ImpactSwaps
  • Lower your swap amount to reduce price impact on thin pools.
  • Set slippage to 0.1–0.5% for stable pairs, higher for volatile tokens.
  • Try a different network or route — UniswapX often finds better prices.
Security

Stay Safe on Uniswap

Verify the URL

Always check you're on app.uniswap.org. Scammers create fake sites with similar URLs — bookmark the official app.

Never Share Your Recovery Phrase

Uniswap will never ask for your recovery phrase or private key. Anyone who does is a scammer.

Keep ETH for Gas

Keep a small amount of the network's native token (ETH, etc.) to pay gas fees for swaps and approvals.

Verify Token Contracts

When swapping new tokens, verify the contract address on Etherscan — don't rely on the token name alone.

About

About Uniswap

Uniswap is a decentralized exchange protocol launched in November 2018 by Hayden Adams. It uses an automated market maker (AMM) model, letting anyone swap ERC-20 tokens directly from their wallet without a centralized intermediary.

The protocol has grown into a multichain ecosystem spanning Ethereum and 12+ networks. Products include the Uniswap web app, the self-custody Uniswap Wallet, UniswapX aggregation, and Unichain — a Layer 2 built for DeFi.

The UNI token powers Uniswap Governance, letting the community steer the protocol. Uniswap v4 introduces hooks and a singleton architecture for customizable pools and lower gas costs. Official documentation: docs.uniswap.org.
